In this part of sermon 1 John Flavel gives us his reasoning as to why the knowlege of Christ is so excellent. 1st. He tells us that the knowlege of Christ is what unifies the Bible into one book. In The Old Testament Christ is concealed through the types and shadows and the sacrificial system. In the New Testament Christ is revealed. It is the revelation of Jesus Christ that helps us to understand the Old Testament. We find out that the whole of The Old Testament points forwards to the revelation of Jesus Christ. 2nd. We see that the knowlege of Christ is foundational to receieving the blessings of God. Foundational to everything we do for God. Any ministry we do can only be done properly in the knowlege of Christ. We are thankful to him for all that he has done. He is our comfort in this life. It is our knowlege of him that makes us willing and glad to suffer in his service. The hallmarks of every martyr is their joy in Christ. 3rd. It is the knowlege of Christ that leads to salvation. Christ is the door that opens heaven to us. It is the knowlege of Christ that is the key to this door.
